When To Choose Chiropractic Treatment
Chiropractic offers benefits for optimum health and wellness. Still, one of the primary reasons people seek chiropractic care is for relief from pain. Discomfort and pain are symptoms of changes and/or malfunctions in your body. Nearly everyone will benefit from chiropractic care, and chiropractic treatment is designed to help patients of all ages from infancy to senior, both male and female. Throughout life, all people experience discomfort and stress; this in itself will contribute to the development of subluxations.
What Causes A Subluxation
Subluxation is caused by life, and the one guarantee that life offers is change. The world is constantly moving and constantly changing and there are many stresses in everyone's personal lives. The stressors cause our overworked, traumatized bodies to react, for example:
Dietary - food preservatives
Emotional - relationship problems, death of relatives or friends
Mental - over studying, computer work/paperwork
Chemical - tobacco, alcohol, drug, pollution
Physical - auto accidents
How Will A Chiropractor Restore My Health And Wellness
Chiropractor is a doctor who has been trained to properly locate and correct or reduce Subluxation. The doctor must consider the variables in order to address the problem with precision and accuracy. They are as follows:
Muscle Tone: Are there spasm, flaccidity, strength, or weakness?
Joints: The degree of degeneration, pathology, and direction of misalignment must be determined.
Motion of the Joint - Is there normal, too much, or too little motion?
Soft Tissues: including the discs of the spine, tendons, ligaments can have swelling, degeneration and inflammation.
Nerves: Is the nerve sensation that of hot, cold, inflammation, tingling, dullness, or pain.
After careful consideration, Dr. Dumas will determine a treatment plan that will address the above findings to most effectively take pressure off the nerve and allow the electrical impulses to be restored to normal.
Chiropractic can help alleviate ailments such as: Anxiety, Arthritis, Asthma, Blood Pressure Issues, Breathing Difficulty, Cerebral Palsy, Colds, Constipation, Diabetes, Ear Aches, Epilepsy, Extremity Problems, Glaucoma, Headache, Herniated Discs, Hormone Imbalance, Impotence, Inflammation, Insomnia, Low Back Pain, Menstrual Pain, Multiple Sclerosis, Nausea, Numbness, Sciatica, Shock, Sinusitis, Spasticity, Stroke, Tension, Tics, Tinnitus (Ringing in the ears), Tiredness, Vertigo and many more.
What Should I Expect With Chiropractic Care
Your condition, generally, did not occur overnight. In fact, many start to feel the pain weeks, months, and even years after it has occurred. As a result, your treatment will take time. Your body has to readapt to all of your stressors up until the date of your first treatment. You can expect routine visits with a spinal check, adjustment, therapy, nutrition, and exercise
How Long Will It Take
Your treatments at the Chiropractors office will usually only take 10 minutes and treatment frequency will vary from 2 to 3 times a week. However, keep in mind every case is different! Dr. Dumas will treat your subluxation according to severity and one visit may take more time than another. Your treatment program is determined by your age, length of time of your condition and rate of severity. The treatment you receive will change as your conditions improve. The follow-up visits will consist of a quick re-examination to allow treatment programs to change.
How Will You Monitor My Care
There are three phases of care:
Acute Care: This is from the first treatment, until the pain subsides. Just because you are pain free does not mean you are well. The absence of pain only indicates a person has reached a pain level their body can tolerate. Once you are out of pain, Dr. Dumas reevaluates and may change treatment protocol and treatment frequency and changing the patient status to the second phase of care.
Reconstructive Care: The goal of reconstructive care is to see you until normal function is restored. Once normal function is restored, you can then elect to take Wellness care.
Wellness Care: A wellness visit is a preventative check for subluxations that prevent the formation of disease and help maintain health A sample wellness program may consist of spinal checks at 2 to 6-week intervals to check for and treat reoccurring subluxations.
What About Nutrition
Many chiropractors are highly trained in nutrition. Dr. Dumas may make recommendations to your diet as well as using nutritional supplements. These nutrients will help to reduce the stress, reaction to a chemical imbalance caused poor diet or toxicity and assist in digestion and supply the body with food that it may be lacking.
